New FOUNDATION fieldbus device answers user need for fewer buses
in plants, reducing installation and maintenance costs.
CHANHASSEN, MN (July 20, 2004) - Emerson Process Management introduces
the new Rosemount 848L Logic Transmitter for cost-effective integrating
of logic and discrete I/O capability on a FOUNDATION fieldbus H1
segment, without the need for a separate discrete I/O bus. The
848L adds to the broad family of intelligent field devices that
power
delivery of project and operations savings and efficiency by Emerson's
PlantWeb® digital plant architecture.
|
The 848L accepts up to eight direct-wired
discrete inputs, plus inputs sent over FOUNDATION fieldbus; these interact
within the device's logic processing capability, and drive up to four
discrete outputs of the 848L. By executing logic in the 848L field
device, the application can be supported in the absence of any central
controller, or even fieldbus communications, providing a high level
of availability. The 848L can be used in a variety of applications
including motor starters, solenoid valves, limit switches, interlocks,
proximity switches, push buttons, annunciators, and burner flame management. |

Logic Transmitter |
Twenty logic equations of the 848L transmitter enable
interactions to be processed independently of the fieldbus and central
controller, providing fast execution for the most demanding applications.
The transmitter's discrete input block can communicate the status of
any of the inputs, or the results of any of the twenty logic equations,
to other devices on the bus or to the host. As a FOUNDATION
fieldbus device, the I/O and logic can be configured using the same DDL based
software tools utilized by other devices, reducing maintenance and
training costs.
As one of the components of Emerson's PlantWeb, the 848L further
strengthens the digital plant architecture's proven ability to improve
plant efficiency by 2% and more through delivering asset optimization,
process automation, and management execution. Further cost savings,
increased plant availability, and enhanced safety and environmental
compliance are achieved when the transmitters are integrated into
the PlantWeb architecture.
